Letters of the Ladd family, 1809-1841 [manuscript]

Regarding Quaker meetings and, in particular, traveling to other meetings such as in Philadelphia, New York , Indiana, Missouri and Rhode Island, health, family and numerous Friends, as well as some discussion of business. In addition to Benjamin Ladd and Elizabeth Ladd, the primary letter writers writing mostly to each other, other writers include their daughter, Isabella, Richard Wood and Sarah Farquhar. Benjamin mentions traveling with Stephen Grellet (1817 6/19); "Quakerism is certainly at a low ebb..." (1819 1/11); mentions Elisha Bates in several letters; the issue of the Separation is discussed (1828 4/28 and 1831 5/2 e.g.)

Stephen Grellet (28 October 1772 – 16 November 1855) was a prominent French-American Quaker missionary. Grellet was born Étienne de Grellet du Mabillier in Limoges, the son of Antoine Gabriel Grellet, a counsellor of King Louis XVI also director of the first chinaware fabric in Limoges. His family had some interest in iron making.
